Watermelon dietWatermelon Diet

Watermelon is packed full of nutrients and the watermelon diet consists of eating a lot of watermelon!!! One diet plan consists of eating watermelon for breakfast and lunch, sort of like a meal replacement. Then you would eat a regular low calorie dinner.

Watermelon is a choice for dieters because it has no cholesterol and virtually no fat.  Watermelon is an excellent source of potassium and vitamins A, C, and B6.  It's also a good source of water.

Watermelon contains more lycopene than any other fresh fruit or vegetable.  Lycopene is an antioxidant known to prevent cancer.  Studies have shown that people who get lots of lycopene have a lower risk of prostate, uterine, and esophageal tumors. Nutritional Info on Watermelon

Tomatoes also have lycopene, even though there is less per serving (4 milligrams in a cup vs. 9 in the same amount of watermelon).  Watermelon is also certified by the American Heart Association as one of the best foods for cardiovascular health. To become certified by the American Heart Association, a product must be low in fat, saturated fat, cholesterol and meet nutrient requirements for making a coronary heart disease health claim.

In short adding watermelon to your diet can help you to lose weight and be healthy.  Stay tuned for recipes using watermelon and specific plans for dieting with watermelon.

Added bonuses for eating watermelon in the summer - the fruit is in season and is extra juicy and cheap.
